Language Arts
Great Books Roundtable: Accelerated Reader, Membean, various novel studies, interdisciplinary readings with social studies, multiple genres of literature and writing.
Accelerated Reader: This curriculum is designed to build strong reading, writing, and communication skills in young learners. It offers engaging, age-appropriate lessons that help students master essential language foundations early on, giving them the confidence and skills to succeed as they continue their education.
We offer Step Up to Writing curriculum, which provides students with a comprehensive framework for writing across all subject areas. The program emphasizes planning, organizing, revising, and editing to help students become confident and effective communicators.
We also offer them Daily Grammar Practice, which is a structured, daily approach to understanding grammar and sentence structure. Rather than learning grammar rules in isolation, students analyze one sentence over the course of a week to develop a deep understanding of language mechanics.
Social Studies
Our Lady of Fatima Academy’s middle school Social Studies curriculum equips students with a deep understanding of history, geography, and civic responsibility through engaging content and interactive learning. Using the Impact California Social Studies series, students explore the complexities of civilizations, cultures, and key historical events with age-appropriate depth and rigor.
In Grade 6, students study Ancient Civilizations—from Mesopotamia and Egypt to India, China, Greece, and Rome—through the lens of world history and geography. In Grade 7, the curriculum transitions to Medieval and Early Modern Times, introducing students to global developments in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Grade 8 centers on United States History and Geography, focusing on the nation’s founding, expansion, and key conflicts that shaped its growth.
To enhance comprehension and critical thinking, students use tools like Actively Learn Social Studies, which provides interactive texts and discussion-based learning. Regular assessments, including chapter tests and quizzes, support mastery and retention. Teachers utilize both print and digital editions to tailor instruction, ensuring students develop not only content knowledge but also strong analytical and civic-thinking skills.
Math
At Our Lady of Fatima Academy, our middle school mathematics program is designed to challenge and support students at every level through a leveled placement approach that promotes individual growth and prepares students for advanced study. Using a blend of proven resources and digital tools, we tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of each learner.
Students are placed in math courses that align with their skill level and academic readiness, allowing for advancement and deeper exploration of mathematical concepts. Core curriculum materials include Prentice Hall Courses 1, 2, and 3, Pre-Algebra, and Pearson Realize Algebra 1, providing a strong foundation in number sense, algebraic thinking, geometry, and data analysis. Students ready for higher-level coursework are offered Common Core Geometry, supported by both print and digital resources.
Assessment and placement are guided by data from Renaissance STAR Math, ensuring that each student is appropriately challenged and supported. Our leveled approach not only strengthens mathematical understanding but also empowers students to move forward with confidence as they transition to high school and beyond.
Social Emotional Learning
All grades at Our Lady of Fatima participate in Friendzy, which is a Christ-centered social-emotional learning program that teaches students essential life skills such as empathy, resilience, kindness, and teamwork. While aligning with Gospel values, this program focuses on emotional regulation, communication, conflict resolution, friendship skills, and character development. The benefits of Friendzy are that it promotes a positive school climate, reduces bullying, and supports mental wellness.
Religion
Christ Our Life is our core Religion curriculum, designed to deepen students’ understanding of the Catholic faith and to help them live it out in their daily lives. The program is grounded in Scripture and Church teachings. It focuses on Catholic doctrine, prayer, sacraments, moral development, and liturgical seasons. The benefits of this curriculum include: faith-based activities, strong connections to family and parish life, and developmentally appropriate lessons.
We teach Christ Our Life in all grades, with students participating in Mass, prayer services, and sacramental preparation.
What else does our Middle School offer?

Science
Our 6th-8th Grade program offers STEMscopes Science, which is a hands-on, inquiry-based science curriculum built around the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). It engages students in active learning by encouraging them to observe, question, experiment, and reflect on real-world scientific phenomena. Through interactive investigations, digital resources, and engineering challenges, STEMscopes helps students develop critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of earth, life, and physical sciences. Its student-centered approach makes science exciting, meaningful, and connected to everyday life.
At Our Lady of Fatima Academy, the annual Science Fair is a highlight for our Middle School students. This exciting event gives students the opportunity to explore real-world scientific questions, apply the scientific method, and showcase their creativity and critical thinking. Whether building models, conducting experiments, or tackling environmental challenges, students develop presentation skills and confidence as they share their discoveries with the school community. It’s a celebration of curiosity, innovation, and the joy of learning!
